This is a very detailed, well-researched genealogy of the Massachusetts line of the Small family, providing eight generations.
Includes extensive details on several generations of the allied families of Allerton, Andrews, Chandler, Cook,
Cushman, Dyer, Hatch, Heard, Jenney, Mitchell, Pratt, Roberts, Stetson
and Talbot.
Also includes a dozen other family names with numerous entries.
“This work has grown far beyond the proportions originally intended ; hence a few words in explanation appear to
be necessary. In the beginning, the so-called " Register plan " for the arrangement and numbering of families was
considered, and was discarded as not applicable. It could have been used in the later families with good effect.
“The material employed has been collected, as far as possible, from original sources, preserving the spelling
and form. The dates, in the matter gathered personally, have been copied with no attempt to change the day
from Old Style to New Style. In the published volumes consulted, and contributions from private individuals,
the style of dating is not always apparent.”
